The Bees are Coming!

For a long while now I have been toying with the idea of keeping bees. After watching the movie Secret Life of Bees, then I really wanted to give it a try. So today I finally took the plunge and ordered all the necessary equipment and the bees. They will be arriving May 6 th. I have no idea how to begin the new hive so we enlisted a local bee keeper who we know. We need all the help we can get! I have also been told we will not get any honey the first year because the bees need it to survive the winter. Which is a little disappointing, but good things comes to those who wait. Hope you all are having a blessed week.

You are so brave! I'm deathly afraid of bees! I know what you are doing is important though. We had a speaker at our library last year about bees and the importance of them. It was quite interesting, I just didn't sit too close..LOL! Good luck on your new adventure! hugs, michelle

Good luck with your new bees, Jill!
We just got ours yesterday, and even though my Dad has kept bees all my life and he is helping us along with them, I still have SOOO much to learn!
I haven't seen the movie you're talking about, but I've heard it's really good.
You have a beautiful blog- really enjoyed my visit here today!!

I have always wanted to learn how to "bee keep". They are so impotant to our ecosystem. I've done some reading on thier importrance since they say there are a shortage of them. I was looking at what flowers I could plant around my garden to attract them. I hope your venture is successful. Please keep us updated I will love to follow your adventures.

Oh that sounds like fun! We had a swam up in our front yard tree last year, and called a beekeeper to come and get it. It was fascinating how he did it!
I would love to do it too, but my husband is very allergic to bees.
I love honey, and buy ours from a man who sets up at our local Farmers Mkt.
Good luck!
